Nature’s Hour Discovers the Outdoors at Home

Nature’s Hour is a virtual program series that offers interactive learning with craft kits and a live online program with a Great Parks nature interpreter. Those ages 5 and up will experience unique activities like dissecting an owl pellet, making lip balm with beeswax and building a hummingbird feeder.

Tue 7/7, 11 a.m.: Whoooo Ate What?

Meet a few owls and discover what makes them top predators in our area. Then we will dissect an owl pellet to find out what the owl ate for dinner!

Thu 7/9, 11 a.m.: Sunshine & Flowers

Summer is a great time to play in the sun. Join us for sunlight facts, a suncatcher craft, STEM activities and games.

Tue 7/14, 11 a.m.: Barnyard Friends

Watch an interactive puppet show featuring some barnyard friends, meet their live counterparts and make a barnyard to fill with critters.

Thu 7/16, 11 a.m.: Brilliant Bees

While honeybees are very cool, more than 500 other bees call Ohio home. Learn some of the nature interpreters’ favorites and build a house for mason bees.

Tue 7/21, 11 a.m.: Light up the Sky!

Make your very own lightning bug and discover how to attract these amazing beetles to your outdoor space. We will learn about other nature that produces light and how they are able to glow.

Thu 7/23, 11 a.m.: Hummingbirds

Learn about ruby-throated hummingbirds and ways to attract them to your yard. We will make a small hummingbird feeder to entice them to visit your garden space.

Tue 7/28, 11 a.m.: Old Time Toys & Tools

Wander into the craft of frontier toy making. Assemble a pump drill, whip up a whirligig, build a buzzsaw and become a master of pioneer toys.

Thu 7/30, 11 a.m.: Bees to Lip Balm

Learn about the life of a bee and how wax is produced and harvested. Make lip balm using bees wax and other natural ingredients.

Each program, including craft kit, is $10 per person. Kits will be available for pickup at Sharon Woods the Monday prior to program. Registration deadline is three days prior to each class. More information and registration at https://www.greatparks.org/virtualprograms under Virtual Programs.
