AIA Cincinnati Local Advocacy Working Group

Register Here.

An important part of AIA Cincinnati’s work is to promote the profession of architecture, advocate for issues that affect the business of architecture and the built environment, and ensure the voice of architects is represented at every level in the communities we serve (Adams, Brown, Butler, Clermont, Clinton, Fayette, Hamilton, Highland, and Warren counties in Ohio).

If you’re interested in how local elections and policies impact the field of architecture, sign up for  our Local Advocacy Working Group as we strategize about how to tackle upcoming elections and other efforts to positively impact our communities. We’d also appreciate your input through our Advocacy survey.

Register before noon on September 2 to receive Zoom meeting info.

Here’s what we’re working on:

  1. Identifying questions impacting the work of architects to ask candidates running for county-wide office then requesting position statements from those candidates. (NOTE: Hamilton County has November 3 election details online, but other counties’ Board of Elections websites do not. If you live/work in Adams, Brown, Butler, Clermont, Clinton, Fayette, Highland or Warren counties and have information about the upcoming election, please share with the AIA Cincinnati staff).
  2. Organizing a Zoom candidates forum for Hamilton County Commissioners (and possibly others if we get the information and volunteers from those counties). The forum(s) can address some of topics in the position statements but can also help us understand the issues that most concern them and how architects may be able to help.
  3. Identifying issues impacting the built environment in specific localities we serve – for example, tear-downs in Mt. Lookout, expanding development in rural communities, etc.- and how to monitor them
  4. Identifying community councils, zoning boards, commissions, and other boards where architects are already serving, or could be serving.
