ENC Thought Leadership Series: Midwest Energy Strategies

  • February 17, 2021
  • 1:00 PM - 2:15 PM
  • Virtual

Organization: USGBC

OVERVIEW:

Join the USGBC ENC Region for a virtual, interactive session on progressive, Midwest-specific energy strategies.

Buckle up for a Zero Carbon economy by 2050! We will briefly touch on the role of the pandemic and recognize the importance of zero energy in new construction—before taking a deep dive into to existing buildings. We will explore how our climate solution hinges upon success in this area. Don't worry, there is hope! We will hold a facilitated discussion to challenge session participants on ways that we, as industry professionals, can change how we personally approach our jobs with Zero Carbon 2050 target in mind. How can we change our companies? How can our companies change our clients? How can our clients change their decision-making processes that present the barriers to Zero Carbon? Join us to to get the ball rolling, together!

Our featured Zero Carbon champion will be Greg Raffio of Go Sustainable Energy and the session will be moderated by MaryEllen Etienne of USGBC's Market Transformation & Development team.

Learning Objectives

Attendees will be able to:

Learn about a facility that has improved over a decade and is within striking distance of zero energy status.

Understand how similar facilities can approach this zero-energy or zero-carbon path in a cost-effective and deliberate way.

Identify how a facility, once at low enough energy consumption, can consider how to ‘get to zero’ on-site OR if on-site zero is not possible, mechanisms to engage off-site.

Participate in a moderated discussion about making serious changes in how we, as green building professionals, approach projects to push towards a zero carbon future.
