The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden and Klosterman Baking Company have partnered up once again to bring back the popular Native Plant Sales, this year with an expanded schedule.

Beginning on April 24, events will be held 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on 10 dates at Bowyer Farm in Mason. These events will run through October.

Similar to last year, advance registration is required for each plant sale to ensure COVID safety protocols, according to a media release. Each shopping slot will last 30 minutes, and registrations usually sell out.

The Native Plant Sale will have 10 dates that offer a wide range of native plants at reasonable prices, the media release says. All of the plants are grown by the Cincinnati Zoo horticultural team and sold to gardeners and supporters of the local "Save the Bees" campaign. The sale is meant to encourage residents to “plant pollinator-friendly plants native to our region,” the release explains.

The plant sale is part of Cincinnati-based Klosterman Baking Company’s “Save Our Bees” campaign, which is in its third year. Klosterman relies on honey to create many of their products, but over the past few years, there has been a decline in the honey bee population.

Together, Klosterman and the Cincinnati Zoo have established beehives at Bowyer Farm, a 529-acre property where the Native Plant Sale takes place. Any purchase of Klosterman Rich ‘n Good Honey hamburger buns, hot dog buns and rolls supports the partnership between Klosterman and the Zoo and helps raise awareness about the campaign.

The Native Plant Sales will take place April 24, May 9, May 22, June 12, June 26, July 10, August 14, September 11, September 25 and October 9.
