About this Event

OVERVIEW:

Join us for the second session of our quarterly for a virtual, interactive session focused on the USGBC pillar of Resilience.

Buckle up for a Circular Economy by 2050! We will start at the micro level - talking about working towards zero waste in the green building industry, then go macro by addressing how we can create closed loop systems in the larger economy.

We will offer a facilitated panel discussion with subject matter champions then follow-up with interactive breakout sessions that challenge session participants to think about how we, as industry professionals, can change how we personally approach our jobs with a "net zero waste by 2050" target in mind. How can we change our companies? How can our companies change our clients? How can our clients change their decision-making processes that present the barriers to zero waste? Join us to get the ball rolling, together!

Learning Objectives

Attendees will be able to:

Understand how manufacturer is creating a closed loop system that develops products using recycled materials and that can be disassembled and reused at end of use or recycled at end of life.

Learn about a design company championing zero waste by specifying materials from companies offering take-back and by designing with the materials they salvage from other projects.

Hear how one community is approaching the circular economy on the city scale.

Understand how LEED projects can approach better materials and a zero waste path in a cost-effective and deliberate way.

Participate in a mini design charrette to find circular solutions for materials commonly discarded by the building industry.
