Organization: Western Wildlife Corridor
What: Butterfly Walk
Where: Kirby Nature Preserve
Leader: Dr. Glenn Crisler
When: Sat. June 12; 11:00 - 12:30 pm
Come join Dr. Glenn Crisler for a butterfly walk at Kirby Nature Preserve. You’ll learn some tips on butterfly ID as well as some interesting facts about the adaptations of butterflies that we might find on our walk. We may even find some butterflies or moths in the larval stage as caterpillars too. We will have a variety of habitats to explore: a pollinator garden, also certified as a Monarch Waystation, a planted prairie, an emerging savannah and a few acres of woodland.
Dr. Glenn Crisler II is a Professor of Chemistry at Mount St. Joseph University. He has been published in the Journal of Lepidtopera, dedicated to the order of butterflies and moths. He has been photographing butterflies at Western Wildlife Corridor preserves and other local parks.
Check out Glenn’s past recorded zoom program before the hike to see the variety of species we might see! Below are more photos of butterflies found in Western Wildlife Corridor prairies.
