Lunch & Learn: Carbon Sequestration and Concrete

  • July 21, 2021
  • 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM

Organization: USGBC Ohio

You’re invited to attend this Lunch & Learn webinar hosted by USGBC Ohio's Central Ohio Local Leadership Team and ACI Central Ohio. Members of either organization can attend for free, but donations are appreciated. There is a suggested donation of $5 for non-members.

In this webinar you will learn about carbon sequestration in the building industry with a focus on concrete. Discover the capability of new and innovative concrete systems that offer Carbon Dioxide mitigation. Presentation will clarify the environmental impact of cement and concrete and explain natural and enhanced carbonation processes for concrete to absorb and permanently remove CO2 from the environment. New cement production processes have significantly offset embodied carbon. Modern concrete mixtures is have reduced portland cement through utilization of recycled products like fly ash and slag cement. Innovative additives enhance concrete properties, contribute to more efficient structural cross sections, and contribute to enhanced durability and long term resilience.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Understand new technologies used in cement and concrete manufacturing.
  • Discover how innovative concrete products can improve project performance.
  • Learn how to implement concrete innovations in building and infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrate importance of incorporating new technologies to enhance resilience and sustainability in the built environment.
