Organization: Cincinnati Parks
Cincinnati Parks, the Civic Garden Center, and Walnut Hills High School students are collaborating on a large habitat restoration project located on park property in front of the high school. This is a long term project with an end goal of controlling invasive plant species, planting native plants, creating nature trails and establishing a designated space for environmental education and research within the community.
*This project site is a qualifying project for earning required hours towards the Cincinnati Park Board Trained Service Person badge.
Walnut Hills students hope to eventually use the space as an outdoor land lab, as this woods is located just steps from the main entrance to their school
This "Treeforestation" project is located on the acre of land located between Victory Parkway & Sulsar Avenue - just in front of Walnut Hills School.
Volunteers should be prepared for the weather (lightweight & / or layered clothing) and wear long pants and long sleeves to protect against thorns and possible poison ivy encounters. Close-toed shoes are required. Suggested: Face covering if unvaccinated, work gloves (if you own them) and a refillable water bottle. There will be work gloves available to borrow and a water cooler will be provided on site for volunteers to refill bottles. Cincinnati Parks discourages single - use plastics.
